Victor Hugo Square in Arras

With a striking octagonal design, the Victor Hugo Square dates from the XVIII century and is the creation of the architect Beffara. It was the heart of the low city in the past, and used to hold the cattle markets (the visitors can still see the posts of sandstone with their metal rings). An obelisk, dedicated to king Louis XVI, is erected in the centre of the square.
