North France

The city of Arras is the capital of the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. Having Gallic and Gallo-Roman origins and more than 2,000 years of history, Arras is packed with heritage.

In July 2005, the bell tower of Arras was classified as part of the “World Inheritance of Humanity” by UNESCO.

During the First World War, the city was a strategic point for the Allies. The British soldiers used Arras’ underground tunnels to defeat the German forces by surprise.
