More pictures of the Louvre-Lens museum
I was very impressed with this marble statue, which represents Augustus (the founder of the Roman Empire, 27 BC-AD 14) :
Standing female nude : companion of the Babylonian goddess Nanaya, she may be the daughter of the moon god. Alabaster, ruby, gold.
Fragment of the decoration of the palace of Persian king Darius I : archer from the royal guard.
The Persian Empire reached its apogee under the reign of Darius I (522-486 BC). His palace at Susa was decorated with a frieze of archers, possibly representing the famous “Immortals”, his elite guard.
